History

  • 1892

    Electricity in Lithuania: the first electric lamp at the court of Bogdan Ogiński.

  • 1937

    The energy company “Elektra” is founded, the date is assumed to be the beginning of the company’s activity.

  • 1995

    A new stage in the development of the energy sector in Lithuania – Lietuvos Energija is founded.

  • 2010

    Dynamic changes in the energy industry around the world. The Lietuvos Energija Group is embarking on intensive investments to meet these challenges – to create an energy-smart world and easy and convenient access to energy.

    All companies of the Lietuvos Energija Group merge under one brand – Ignitis.

History

An important part of the Ignitis Group’s growth strategy is to create an energy-intelligent world and strive for a more sustainable future. Ignitis pursues its strategy by focusing on its commitment to the decarbonisation of the energy sector through the modernisation of the energy system, the development of green energy generation, the introduction of innovations and compliance with environmental, social and good corporate governance principles.

Ignitis Group aligns its business goals with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and is committed to reducing net carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to zero by 2050.

In terms of revenue, Ignitis Group is the largest group of energy companies in the Baltic States. The Group’s companies operate in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and Finland. The Group’s innovation fund invests in energy start-ups in the UK, Norway, France and Israel. The capitalization of the group listed on the Vilnius and London stock exchanges is the equivalent of PLN 8 billion. The majority shareholder holding 73% of the shares remains the Lithuanian state.

The main activity of the Group is the generation and supply of electricity and heat, trading and distribution of electricity and natural gas, maintenance and development of power systems and development of smart-energy solutions. The Group companies supply electricity and natural gas to approximately 1.6 million business and private customers.

  • Investor: CHP plant in Vilnius with 229 MW of thermal capacity and 92 MW of electricity from waste and in Kaunas with 70 MW of thermal capacity and 24 MW of electricity from waste.
